Description | Originally catalogued as 'Press cuttings - reviews of own articles or special interest', this file consists of two groupings of press cuttings: from Germany in the 1930s and from Oxford in the 1950s.
The press cuttings from the 1930s (two folders) deal with Simon's career at Breslau and on German attitudes to Jews in the 1930s, and include a cutting from the 'Atlantic Monthly' by Arthur H Compton, 'The Jews: A Problem or An Asset?' and one from 'The Passing Show' by Carl Olsson on Jewish emigres from Germany titled 'The Exiles in Our Midst Start Life Again' (1934)
The press cuttings from the 1950s cuttings cover four topics: Simon's call for a Minister of Science and Technology to be created at Cabinet level; Simon's address to a course for the National Industrial Fuel Efficiency Servce on fuel waste (1956); Simon's radio broadcast on technical education (1956) and reviews of RF Harrod's 'The Prof: A Personal Memoir of Lord Cherwell' |
