DescriptionThe papers in these files mostly deal with Industrial Distributors' 'Special Research Project in England', into funding Solid State research in the UK, and follow on from the correspondence in the preceeding file. The papers are grouped into the following sections:

Correspondence with RS Young, Head of Research, Industrial Distributors, on reports on Industrial Distributors research; Simon's suggestions of candiates for a vacant research post with Industrial Distributors and on ME Nahmias's patent, "Methods of Producing Permanent Modifications of the Colour and the Physical Characteristics of Gems" (Young feared the effect this patent would have on irradation experiments on diamonds).

Correspondence with WD Jones (a powder metallurgist acting as a liason officer between Industrial Distributors and the scientists), on meetings of the Committee supervising the Special Research Project.

Correspondence with JF Scanlan, Industrial Distributors, on Nahmias's patent; meetings of the Committee supervising the Special Research Project and on Prof CJ Gorter joining the Research Project.

Papers of the Declarations and Export Deeds for Diamonds received from Industrial Distributors for experiments at the Clarendon

Papers marked 'Industrial Distributors 1951'. These papers detail correspondence between RS Young; WJ Arrol, AERE and Simon, on the tagging of diamonds with a radioactive substance in order to prevent them being stolen from mines, 1949-1951.

A separate grouping of correspondence includes a letter from Simon to Sir Ernest Oppenheimer (9 November 1951), summarising the work and achievements of the Research Project up to 1951.
