Correspondence with Darwin includes comments by Simon on British attitudes to Jewish emigrants from Nazi Germany: "...We have realised already 7 years ago what the Nazis are and we only wished that all people in this country had realised it in the same way and had acted accordingly. It seems absurd to us, of course, that now we are the people which are suspect to have sympathies for the Nazis" .
