TitleCorrespondence with the Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE), Harwell
Date1946-1954
DescriptionThe Atomic Energy Research Establishment near Harwell, Oxfordshire, was the main centre for atomic energy research and development in the United Kingdom from the 1940s to the 1990s. It was establised in 1945 by John Cockcroft as a research laboratory in order to further the use of atomic reactions for generating energy

In 1954 AERE was incoporated into the newly formed United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA). Harwell and other laboratories assumed responsibility for atomic energy research and development.

Although Simon's research work on atomic energy took place during the years of the Second World War, Simon retained an interest post-war in atomic work and acted as a consultant to Harwell and was a member of the Atomic Energy Authority Technical Committee.
