DescriptionThe Ministry of Supply was set up under the Ministry of Supply Act 1939 and was responsible for the administration of the Royal Ordnance Factories and for design, inspection, research and experimental work in connection with the supply of munitions, clothing and other stores to the War Office and Air Ministry. Under the Atomic Energy Act 1946 the Ministry of Supply took over from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research the duty of promoting and controlling the development of atomic energy.

This correspondence contains material relating to the Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE) at Harwell, Oxfordshire and also other Ministry of Supply research centres and factories including the Telecommunications Research Establishment, Malvern, the Ministry of Supply Factory, Capenhurst and the Division of Atomic Energy Industrial Group Headquarters at Risley. Also included are two files of correspondence with Lt Cdr E Welsh and JH Awberry of the Department of Atomic Energy.

Simon acted as a consultant to the AERE and served on committees connected with the diffusion plant at Capenhurst.
