TitleLetter from Howard Walter Florey to H R Dean, Pathology Department, Cambridge
Date14 October 1949
DescriptionInterested to receive Dean's enquiry - seems that Oxford will have distinction of having the lowest paid pre-clinical professors in the country - there were proposals to make Pathology, Biochemistry and Pharmacology departments clinical - thought this was wrong in principle - discusses this - comments on salaries to be paid to professors - considerable opposition from college staffs who do not benefit from present proposals - if present salary proposals are rejected will inform University that teaching of pathology will cease - comments on this and on difficulty of trying to run department on present salary scales - would like to know what decision is taken in Cambridge about Pathology, Pharmacology and Biochemistry - comments on salary proposals to go to Council - has no admiration for way in which their Universities have conducted their financial affairs in the last few years.
