TitleLetter from R A Paget-Cooke, Fleming Memorial Fund for Medical Research, London to Howard Walter Florey
Date27 June 1962
DescriptionWould like Florey's advice - have been considering possible American appeal - Fund is unlikely to reach initial £1 million target unless an American appeal is made - intends to seek from Sir Harold Caccia, and through him from the British Ambassador in Washington, official approval of proposed appeal - plans to make pilot survey in selected states to establish possible target for and length of appeal - intends to seek help of American Ambassador in London in setting up committee under aegis of which appeal could be launched - discusses plan to set up trial organisation in New York State which will try to establish with the Federal Authorities that American donations will be tax-deductable and that money raised can be sent out of USA - Sir Berkeley Ormerod is willing to help with organisation of appeal - asks if there are any scientific objections or obstacles to the proposed appeal - setting up of trial organisation will not be publicised - later approaches to American pharmaceutical manufacturers should be personal approaches.
