DescriptionSummary of a letter from Sir John Frederick William Herschel to Josef von Fraunhofer (1787-1826) dated 27 January 1825; German physicist and optical instrument-maker, made by Sir John Herschel, likely as a calendar of exchanges related to the Royal Astronomical Society.
The notes are headed 'Frauenhofer'.
Letter announced election of Fraunhofer as Associate member of the RAS. In postrscriptum acknowledged the receipt through [Fox] Talbot of his crown glass prism, dispatch of various volumes and articles.
The paper is of very good quality with a Britannia watermark holding an M, seal has been removed from the side and in-filled at a later stage.
