Title | Letter from Charles Harrison Blackley, Egerton Terrace, Stretford Road, Manchester, to Sir J[ohn] F[rederick] W[illiam] Herschel |
Creator | Blackley; Charles Harrison (1820-1900); British physician |
Date | 12 June 1866 |
Description | Blackley has wished to possess a specimen of Herschel's handwriting for some time and asks if he could send a few lines. He has lately perused Book 2 of 'The Iliad' translated by Herschel from Homer and was charmed by it. He asks if Herschel could write out the few lines he encloses [not present] from that source. He looks forward to seeing Herschel at the prizegiving at Owen's College on 22 June: 'I hope to see and hear one of England's greatest men, in science and literature'. |
