Title | Letter from J [James] Inglis Cochrane, Elderslie House, Largs, Ayrshire, to Sir John [Frederick William] Herschel |
Creator | Cochrane; James Inglis (d.1868?); British merchant and translator |
Date | 13 February 1866 |
Description | A month's severe illness has prevented him from replying to Herschel's letter and criticisms of Book 24 [of 'The Iliad']. He was able to correct two or three blunders of the printers, but he thought it too late to change the general style, as it would not have been in unison with the previous translation. He explains some of his predicaments in translating, and his model of using German hexameters. He hopes to hear of Herschel's translation soon. |
