TitleLetter from G [George Murray] Smith, 45 Pall Mall, to Sir John F W [Frederick William] Herschel
CreatorSmith; George Murray (1824-1901); British publisher, businessman, and founder of the Dictionary of National Biography
Date5 April 1862
DescriptionHerschel's corrections to the proof have received attention and he will be sent a proof of the article exactly as it will appear in the 'Cornhill Magazine'. Smith hopes that he will not mind his name appearing in full, instead of just with initials. Smith will print 100 copies [of 'The Iliad' translation] for distribution to Herschel's friends. Herschel will not be restrained from republishing after the insertion in the 'Cornhill Magazine', and he proposes the sum of 50 guineas for publication.
