| Title | Drawing, a tripod and theodolite, by [John Herschel] |
| Creator | Herschel; John (1837-1921); British army officer and astronomer |
| Date | n.d. [June 1859] |
| Description | Two figures of a tripod arrangement for a surveying instrument. The main figure shows the tripod arrangement from slightly below, with a figure detail of a tripod leg, with a pointed foot, or 'shoe'. There are supplementary notes and figures verso, with instructions on how to construct the legs and shoes.
Inscribed in pencil below: 'Sketch with the camera' [presumably a camera lucida].
Held with the watercolours HS/2/1/17-18, but most likely is associated with the letter HS/2/1/13, which describes a three-legged stand of this type, designed by John Herschel. |
