Title | Letter from J H [John Herschel], Camp Bhawalpoor [Bahawalpur] States (Khairpur), to 'Dearest Mother' [Margaret Brodie Herschel] |
Creator | Herschel; John (1837-1921); British army officer and astronomer |
Date | 6 February 1862 |
Description | John asks his mother not to fret if he does not write, citing how busy he is and the time it takes to write about nothing. He sends this to show all is well. He yearns for English news later than 26 December, which is probbaly lying in a post office somewhere. The question of war or no war is unresolved for him. Willy [William James Herschel] has written to ask where John will be in May to July, as he is taking three months' leave, allowing John to infer what he wants to do with it. That is all the news he has had from Willy in the past six months: 'I am in doubts whether he is in China, Timbuctoo or Calcutta'. |
