TitleLetter from J [John] Mackinnon, Mussoorie, to J [John] Herschel, Dehra Doon [Dehradun]
CreatorMackinnon; John (d.1870?); British schoolmaster and brewer
Date11 April 1865
DescriptionAfter attempting a quick settlement of his son's affairs, for the sake of his creditor [Herschel] he found himself stopped by legal forms. He cannot be recognised in civil matters in Calcutta [Kolkata] because he does not reside in Bengal. He cannot find a private friend to act for him. He has asked the Administrator General to take up the estate and he has heard that he must forward creditors' claims in original. He had sent the list with his letter including Herschel's 1,000 rupees, but if Herschel has any vouchers, he should send them to Mackinnon. He will testify to his knowledge of Herschel's claim again, and his evidence should be sufficient. He apologises for giving Herschel this bother.
