TitleLetter from D G [Daniel George] Robinson, Landour, to 'My dear Herschel' [John Herschel]
CreatorRobinson; Daniel George (1826-1877); British army officer and telegraph engineer
Dateno date [January 1865?]
DescriptionHe thanks Herschel for his note, he was just writing about Walker, Hennessey and the gunpowder. He has all but made up his mind to go to Calcutta [Kolkata] and wants to sell his possessions. He has gunpowder priced at 11 rupees for 5lbs and a lot of shot, including Eley cartridges. He does not think Herschel would be interested in the books he wants to sell. He wonders if Herschel would like to have howdah, fulminate, or brown sherry. His list already aggregates 8,000 rupees and he notes how people accumulate things in India. As soon as he hears that [James Thomas] Walker is in Deyrah [Dehradun] he will come down.
