TitleLetter from Hasts. [Hastings] Macsween, Camp, to John Herschel, Dera Ghazi Khan, Punjab
CreatorMacsween; Hastings (fl.1840s-1860s); British army officer
Date1 April 1860
DescriptionHe writes with a piece of news. Isaac P [Peat] Westmoreland has married Miss [Rose Julia] Thuillier in Calcutta {Kolkata] and has been appointed in Earl's place at the Roorkee College. He has remembered that [Henry Ravenscroft] Thuillier must be working near Herschel, so he may have heard of this already. Steel has come out and was appointed in Westmoreland's place. Macsween is now travelling back to Moradabad, perhaps delayed by rivers, and he reports on the weather. He has exchanged his old bay gelding. In a postscript, he notes the death of Ben Christie, whom Herschel will remember from Addiscombe; he was killed by a tiger while out shooting.
