TitleLetter from Frank Robertson, United Services Club, Calcutta [Kolkata], to 'My dear Johnnie' [John Herschel]
CreatorRobertson; Frank (1838-1873); British army officer
Date1 September 1860
DescriptionHe has work assisting the garrison engineer on his way to the north-west and he is likely to be there for two months. Tommy Gordon is there. Robertson has fallen in with 'a musical lot', including a gallant major of artillery who sings in a sergeant-major's voice. He likes to have news of Herschel, but he should not write just to be civil. He asks if Herschel has a brother at Kishnagar [Kishangah], as Robertson does. Robertson's brother was in the army before he 'came to grief'.
