Title | Letter from D G [Daniel George] Robinson, Camp, to Lieut. J [John] Herschel, Royal Engineers, Deyhra Doon [Dehradun] |
Creator | Robinson; Daniel George (1826-1877); British army officer and telegraph engineer |
Date | 17 January 1862 |
Description | His wife has upset his arrangements by coming out and preventing him from going home in March. She has consigned boxes which he hopes Herschel will be able to take care of on his behalf. He does not know what Watkins' plans are; his wife has come to take charge of him and he too will postpone his visit to England. Robinson heard of him via 'J.B.H.'. Hennessey's mother is there now. Abbott the civil surgeon has just died. Robinson is under punishment for carelessness or impatience with a shell that had jammed halfway down the barrel of a rifle. The shell burst as he was trying to remove it and his hands are just healing. |
