TitleLetter from C H Byers, Unballah [Ambala], to Lieut. J [John] Herschel, Royal Engineers, Dehra Dhoon [Dehradun]
Date27 March 1863
DescriptionPullan had been at Ambala last week, mentioning a great sale of government tea at Dehra. Byers asks if Mr. Robert Scott or anyone Herschel knows had bought up a quantity. He would like to get 15lbs of black tea and 5lbs of green tea. Herschel's friend 'Bustle' was killed by a hill-dog belonging to an officer of the 98th foot and Byers gives a description of the incident. He wrote to Mussoorie to see if he could obtain one of Bustle's pups. He gives Herschel instructions in the event that there are any pups, and on purchasing tea. The Governor General was there that morning, but Byers was not able to meet him owing to an ankle injury. He asks when Herschel expects James Walker, and if he has heard from Robert Walker.
