Title | Letter from H R [Henry Ravenshaw] Thuillier, Calcutta [Kolkata], to 'My dear Herschel' [John Herschel] |
Creator | Thuillier; Sir Henry Ravenshaw (1838-1922); Anglo-Indian army officer and surveyor |
Date | 1 August 1863 |
Description | He gives thanks for Herschel's letter and cheque. He is glad the books arrived and that Herschel likes them. He sends his carte-de-visite and asks Herschel to save one of his own for Thuillier. He intends to go to Mussoorie for September and October. Stewart sends his love and carte and hopes to go to Mussoorie too. They have had authentic intelligence that Herschel is to be married. He saw Herschel's brother [William James Herschel] before he left in the wretched 'Bengal', which had to put back after being knocked about in the Bay for ten days. He assumes that Herschel had the proceedings of the special meeting of their fund and he notes the special bonuses paid out to various individuals. He asks to be remembered to Walker and has just received a long letter from [John Baboneau Nickterlien] Hennessey. |
