Title | Letter from T G [Thomas George] Montgomerie, Camp Sialkate [Sialkot], to John Herschel, 1st Asst. G T [Great Trigonometrical] Survey, Dehra Dhoon [Dehradun], NWP [North West Province] |
Creator | Montgomerie; Thomas George (1830-1878); British army officer and geographer |
Date | 23 October 1863 |
Description | Walker has told him that Herschel has kindly taken charge of a parcel for Montgomerie. He asks if Herschel could also take charge of a bay Arab that Maunsell was to send care of Robert Scott. Herschel may be able to ride the horse, so long as he does not ride it hard. He wishes that Herschel would write to tell him what he thinks of the horse. [Thomas Tupper] Carter was to go on the expedition of 6,700 men against Sittana, but the news came so late that Montgomerie is not sure if he has gone. Dan [Daniel George Robinson] has had luck with Napier as President in Council. Melville is flourishing and will be in Dehli by 2 November. Montgomerie has shaken off a fever. |
