Title | Letter from H R [Henry Ravenshaw] Thuillier, Camp via Jessore, to 'My dear Herschel' [John Herschel] |
Creator | Thuillier; Sir Henry Ravenshaw (1838-1922); Anglo-Indian army officer and surveyor |
Date | 14 December [1863?] |
Description | He thanks Herschel for his letter of the 22nd and advises him not to pay subsistence allowance to the Jemadar's wife. Thuillier's account differs from Herschel's and he wonders if he has made a mistake in his reckoning. Thuillier gives his account and asks Herschel to check it against his own, and he will settle with him. Thuillier has written for the 'Nautical Almanac' but has not heard back yet. They are getting into worse country as they go East and he expects they will have to live in boats. He has not heard from Stewart since he left Calcutta [Kolkata] and knows nothing of his matrimonial arrangements. He supposes Dehra is dull and there is no news where he is in the jungle. |
