Description | Herschel's letter to [James Thomas] Walker arrived too late and no-one thought to ask him for his address at home. Thuillier encloses two other letters for Walker, thinking that Herschel or [Daniel] Robinson may know his agents. Walker left no orders about his letters. He and [James Palladio] Basevi left on the morning of the 9th. Stewart is not going back to Dehra 'to be spliced'. Stewart is off to Dinapore [Danapur] for a house and to prepare for the field. There are bad accounts of the G G [Governor General], little chance of his recovery, and no likelihood of the Council going to Lahore. The weather is cool and Thuillier will be going to camp from the 17th. He has found that Mrs Daniell 'cut' Herschel because he only bowed to her when she was with the Eckfords, and she thought he did not recognise her, so he should call. He supposes that Herschel will be leaving Mussoorie soon and that they are trying to get Rigby to go. He received a circular from Dan Robinson and voted for him to get Thuillier's share, but he thinks it too late to get him the £200 annuity. |
