Description | It is no use having a friend without giving him trouble, so he has written to suppliers for beer, whiskey, beef, and sugar, giving a list, and he asks Herschel to despatch these to him. These should reach him by the 25th and Montgomerie may be sending some men out to him at around that time. He is now at work, but delayed. He has heard from Campbell, who likes the country he is in very much. He gives minor news, but little is happening. He has just received Herschel's letter of the 24th which has afforded him some amusement. He agrees with Herschel that the horse is only worth 250 and thinks that he would let it go for 200. Montgomerie has asked for the loan of it, so he asks Herschel to send it over and take it back unless a purchaser can be found. Other minor news and he enquires of Herschel what he thinks of Ward, 'a nice fellow'. |
