TitleLetter from Hasts. [Hastings] Macsween, Moradabad, to 'My dear John' [John Herschel]
CreatorMacsween; Hastings (fl.1840s-1860s); British army officer
Date18 December 1859
DescriptionHe has asked Colvin to transfer 70 rupees to Herschel's account and he hopes that is the correct amount; he was afraid to ask as Herschel was in such a rage against Bagge about the same thing. He will make it right with stamps if not. He is 'levelling away' and likes it better than being stuck in Dehli. Mr Hardy Wells, the chief engineer is very nice and said that Herschel would have been coming there if he had not been suddenly placed on the G.I.S. [Great Indian Survey]. He asks how Herschel likes Mooltan and if he will be at Mussourie in the hot weather. He had a letter from Bagge who seems to be working hard. Macsween has invested in a 500 rupee Arab [horse] and has a skye terrier.
