Description | He learnt that morning that in September Herschel had given a cheque to Sandy, his son, as a loan. He was not aware of Sandy's transactions and was utterly opposed to his fatal expedition to Dalhousie. The bank pass-book was returned to him that morning from Madhopoor [Madhopur] from which he learned the particulars. The book has gone to Sandy's mother and he will immediately arrange payment to Herschel from the estate, which is solvent, once delays with the High Court in Calcutta [Kolkata] are overcome. He gives further details and asks if Herschel has any additional claim. It is some consolation that his son made a friend whom he and his wife hold in high esteem. He gives some outline of his activities. |
