TitleLetter from Charles G Chapman, Lahore, to 'My dear Herschel' [John Herschel]
Date2 January 1860
DescriptionThey were glad to receive Herschel's letter to hear that he had accomplished his journey to Mooltan. He thinks that Herschel will enjoy camp life and hopes it will cure his ailment. He must be patient and it was a pity he did not take Smith's prescription with him. The men of the 3rd Cavalry kept him up last Wednesday and he has not recovered yet. He has had no concertina practice since Herschel left and he asks how Herschel is getting on. He comments on the cold weather and notes the races and balls being held at Lahore, but he does not go.
