TitleLetter from Mary Cornwallis Herschel, to [John Herschel]
CreatorHerschel; Mary Cornwallis [formerly Power; née Lipscombe] (1829-1876)
Date15 February 1872
DescriptionMary sympathises with John's present working condition. She sends him a bill, and is unsure what Bella means, relating to an Indian paper sent to Collingwood. She believes that John will have heard news of Lord Mayo's assasination in the Andaman Islands, which she thinks of with dread. She gives an account of her expedition to Lamb's Rock, climbing up to it and her inability to look down upon the sheer drop. She notes a woman being killed by a tiger the week before. She felt 'used up' afterwards, but thinks her lungs are better after the open air.
