TitleLetter from Mary Cornwallis Herschel, to [John Herschel]
CreatorHerschel; Mary Cornwallis [formerly Power; née Lipscombe] (1829-1876)
Date6 December [1871]
DescriptionShe has taken a sheet headed 'Dear Mr. Hennessey' but cannot recall what she was going to write to him. She thanks John for his two letters and was glad to hear that he was well, in spite of the icy winds. She records her own routine of walks with Esther. She does not have John's postage stamps, which were in his paper temple. She has stamps from Morton, but grieves that he has not sent John's favourite pate de frois gras. Dr Cockerill has visited, consulting about the troublesome stopppage in her hypodermic needle, which he took trouble over. She relates how she 'went into an opportune fit or fits - so he struck me without any pain at all...'. She gives a third-party description of Mr. Hennessey and asks if John can tell her the exact time of totality [of an eclipse] by Nilgiri time.
