TitleLetter from Mary Cornwallis Herschel, to [John Herschel]
CreatorHerschel; Mary Cornwallis [formerly Power; née Lipscombe] (1829-1876)
Date16 March 1872
DescriptionShe received the enclosed letter [not present] from Emma, with William's postscript [William James Herschel and Emma Herschel]. Captain Lindsay is shooting at a hut lent to him by the General. Mary sent a long letter to Bella [Isabella Herschel] with a private note. William and Emma were having fevers at Dacca and Emma will leave the plains; she will go to England [although the Herschel family disapprove]. Mary was being urged to do this, which was inconsistent, and Emma has much more reason to go, Mary explains. Colonel and Mrs Scott have welcomed Mary and she will dine with them. She has driven around the lake and complains of the wind, but she is generally better.
