TitleLetter from Mary Cornwallis Herschel, to [John Herschel]
CreatorHerschel; Mary Cornwallis [formerly Power; née Lipscombe] (1829-1876)
Date24 March 1872
DescriptionMary notes invitations from other women to spend the mornings, bringing her work. She received John's letter of 15 March. Mary has heard that the Scotts have moved out of the Herschel house at Bangalore and there would be time to do external painting and have the verandah washed. She describes a drive with Mrs Scott, hampered by the state of the roads. She dined with the Scotts and talked theology with Colonel Scott, whose brother is part of the Bible-revising committee. Mary has been amusing herself with Samuel Pepys' Diary, and she transcribes some passages for John. In a postscript on the Cocker trusteeship, Minnie Power has written to her for details, having heard of the bankruptcy.
