Description | Mary is vexed at not receiving John's letters, giving details of where she had directed post to. She likes to hear of new places and follows John's progress, sympathising on the heat he has to endure and tent life. She fears the railway journey he must take. She has consulted with Captain Lindsay and thinks she can get to Hamilton's Hut. She gives an account of her health, coughing until she bleeds. She is unsure of when to set out for Bangalore, where heat drought and smallpox are driving out the inhabitants. She describes Captain Lindsay's character. The only home letter she has received is from Clara Worship, who gives an account of a Royal procession in London [presumably the Thanksgiving Day procession for the recovery of the Prince of Wales, 27 February 1872]. |
