Title | Copy letter from John Herschel, Dehra [Dehradun] to [Mary Cornwallis Herschel] |
Creator | Herschel; John (1837-1921); British army officer and astronomer |
Date | 2 January 1876 |
Description | He has found his railway guide and gives a likely intinerary for travel, assuming they will leave Hooghli that night, reaching Allahalabad on Monday, receiving his letter on Tuesday. Starting again, to Ghaziabad and then to Saharunpore [Saharanpur]. Dehra is another fifty miles and can be done in a three horse van, which are said to be comfortable. He gives alternative possibilities for travel, describing the countryside and the remarkable range of low hills which are the Sivaliks, giving a small sectional sketch. He would like her to see the splendid view of the Mussoorie range by daylight. He will meet them at the station on Wednesday morning if she sends a telegram from Ghaziabad telling him what to expect. |
