DescriptionCopy of 'An Act for incorporating "the East India Irrigation and Canal Company" and for other Purposes connected therewith. 28 June 1861'. Continued as a letter from William James Herschel to his father, commencing: 'Here is a strange specimen of 19th century morality...'. William is pushing the works of the company in his own district and he has faith in its ultimate success. They have commenced a new irrigation scheme in William's old zillah of Shahabad. They are promising five percent on shares and William considered purchasing shares before discovering that interest would be paid from capital for the first few years, which he considered dishonest: 'what of the widows who lend their rmoney on the strength of the Govt. influence in the matter...'
