| Description | Before leaving office, the Lieutenant Governor has asked Bayley to write to Herschel about the officiating judgeship of Gyah. The appointment was offered to everyone on a list of available men in turn, omitting only Herschel and Horace Cockerell. In both cases the Lieutenant Governor was reluctant to take them away from their districts for even a short time, given the circumstances of the districts. It seemed improbable that Herschel would want to go for three months and he should not consider himself passed over, since a high value is placed on his services. |
