| Description | He thanks his mother for her kind letter. He is surprised that the question of the unmarried girls' shares is considered settled, feeling that the interpretation of the words used by his father [in his will] is not necessarily legitimate; but he will leave matters for now. It is eclipse day and he hopes to hear good accounts of it from Johnny [John Herschel]. Emma has been getting on well since her 'grievous disappointment'. Emma and William have both had a fever, as have several others on the station. They expect Bishop [Robert] Milman to visit on 20 January. |
