Description | He sends Dr Dreyer's last letter where he agrees with Sir William's views about the Jacob [Herschel] letters. Hardcastle would like to send him the copy Komarzewski tour and the file of letters from foreign astronomers. He is sending Dreyer the two biographical memoranda and wonders if he can send the other material in the same parcel, giving Dreyer's address at the Armagh Observatory. He asks if he sent [David] Gill's letter about the polishing notes to Sir William, saying he would like to have it back for Dreyer. John [Herschel] read the Mattins service yesterday. In a postscript, he notes Dreyer's request for facts from Jacob's letters and he wonders if Sir William will lend the five volumes of William Herschel's papers to Dreyer, as the Royal Astronomical Society's copy will be at the printers. A second postscript suggests that the packet stays at the RAS for the moment, until Dreyer has made up his mind about what he needs; Alfred will then send him Sir David Gill's letter. |
