TitleLetter from J L E [John Louis Emil] Dreyer, the Observatory, Armagh, to Sir W J [William James] Herschel
CreatorDreyer; John Louis Emil (1852-1926); Danish astronomer and historian
Date7 March 1911
DescriptionHe thinks that Sir William has a set of his grandfather's papers and asks if he would look at the paper 'On the Georgian planet and its satellites' to let him know of any corrections. Sir William Herschel added some errata to the Philosophical Transactions but corrections to intermediate stages of the calculations are not given. Dreyer could not arrive at the same final result. If Herschel entered these into his own private copy of the paper, Dreyer would like to know. He has completed the examination of double stars and nebulae, giving his opinions of William Herschel's work. He hopes to have the first half of the Philosophical Transactions papers in a few days. He has been prevented from doing the biographical introduction, but will prepare it while the printing progresses.
