Description | He thanks his uncle for his letter, noting that another will follow. At present there is no question of the Royal Astronomical Society reprinting [William Herschel's papers] but the general question will be raised. [Thomas Jefferson Jackson] See has written to the RAS but he thinks that his uncle John should not take See seriously as he is not in the class of Newcomb, Young or others. He will find out the genesis of the RAS five volume collection which he thinks is complete. His uncle should not concern himself with the papers, only the letters, and he deprecates John giving or lending anything to See. In a lengthy postscript, he discusses other matters concerning William Herschel and his papers, including his autobiography. |
