TitleLetter from Letter from Duncan Stewart, to 'Dearest & best beloved Sister' [Margaret Brodie Herschel]
CreatorStewart; Duncan (c.1805-1860); British surgeon for the East India Company
Date21 January 1855
DescriptionHe will not allow his fiftieth birthday to pass without writing, describing his travel plans to return to Britain, via either Southampton or Marseilles. He will be with Margaret by the end of May, he estimates, ready to take up any duty she may wish of him: 'tis not every sister who may have an A.D.C or learned Professor, a Senior Surgeon ...to do her bidding'. He sends a letter from Willy [William James Herschel] whom he will visit on 1 March to get authentic news of him. Duncan hears of him often and he is popular within the district. He notes Carry [Caroline Emilia Mary Herschel, Lady Hamilton-Gordon] and her baby and gives love to all, including Emily.
