Title | Letter from William James Herschel, Junghypore [Jangipur], to 'Dear Bella' [Isabella Herschel] |
Creator | Herschel; Sir William James; second baronet (1833-1917); British developer of fingerprinting and judge |
Date | no date [September-October 1856] |
Description | He has just finished a letter to his father mentioning that he would complete a letter to Bella, but having filled a sheet, it flew away in the wind on board the steamer from Calcutta [Kolkata]. William's examinations are over and there is no doubt about the results this time, althogh he has been unable to work for them. He has been staying with Mr Grote, 'a clever man' and the Commissioner of William's division. Latterly he stayed with the Cowries. He notes the steamer is arriving and in a postscript writes that stereos [photographs] are coming in the next mail for her and he asks if his law books have been sent. |
