TitleLetter from William Waterfield, Berhampore, to 'My dear Herschel' [William James Herschel]
CreatorWaterfield, William W (1832-1907), British civil servant and poet in India
Date15 January 1857
DescriptionHe forgot to send Herschel a copy of the 'Guardian' as he intended. If Herschel has the 'Friend of India' to hand, from 16 October, he will find an article on the case. Waterfield favours the Archdeacon's opinions. He returns Herschel's packet and comments that his sister writes a beautiful letter; such letters are almost from another sphere. He often feels that 'my millstones were becoming ...worn down with grinding each other...'. But he sees them sharpened and polished by such action. He concludes by giving news of mutual acquaintances.
