DescriptionLetter from Frederick R Browning Assistant Engineer of the East Indian Railway Company, enclosing papers relating to the case accusing him of beating Mutte Lall Mookerjee. With material from William James Herschel, who heard the original case, fining Browning 250 rupees; and from Arthur Pigou, who heard Browning's appeal, and reduced the fine to 10 rupees. Commentary by Browning is interpolated between the documents..

With manuscript notes by William James Herschel, intended for his father, Sir John Frederick William Herschel, and referred to in his letter HSF/3/6/8.
