CreatorStewart; Alexander (1764-1821); British Presbyterian minister and Gaelic scholar
RecipientStuart; John (1743-1821); British minister and Gaelic scholar
Date12 August 1801
DescriptionWhen in Edinburgh, Alexander left a copy of his Gaelic grammar to be forwarded to Stuart. He hopes it reached its destination and that Stuart has had time to look at it. He thinks their ideas on language structure coincide, as his were informed by Stuart's Gaelic scriptures. He refers to a letter from Stuart from a year ago, requesting that Alexander communicate his ideas; he will find these in the book. He hopes that Stuart will publish his papers to provide a complete work on ths subject. Alexander would not produce a second edition of his work without it being enriched by communications from his friends.
