TitleCorrespondence between John Nye and the University of Salford
Date1985
DescriptionInvitation from John Ashworth, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Salford, to give a judgement on the scientific value and quality of research carried out at Salford by Professor [Robert R] Birss. Nye declined to participate, stating that 'if the kind of review you suggest were to be come the normal rule I am convinced that it would, in the long run, be destructive of good research'. Includes notes made by Nye while drafting his reply, and a copy of a 1985 memorandum from the University Grants Commission on 'Tenure and related matters'.
