AdminHistoryJohn Cadogan was an organic chemist born in Wales in 1930. He earned his BSc and PcH from Kings College London. He was a professor for many years at the University of St Andrews and the University of Edinburgh, and also worked in industry, joining the BP Research Centre as chief scientist in 1979 and serving as their director of research between 1981 and 1992. He was also president of the Royal Society of Chemistry from 1982 to 1984. He was the first director general of the UK’s Research Councils in 1994. In 2010 he helped found the Learned Society of Wales and was the Society's first president.
