TitleCorrespondence between Professor Peter Goodford and Sir John Vane
Date22 January 1982 - 5 October 2000
DescriptionSir John Vane first met Professor Peter Goodford when he [Professor Goodford] came to work in Professor Harold Burn's department at Oxford, as a graduate student; later, Professor Goodford worked with Sir John Vane at the Wellcome Research Laboratories. It is clear from the correspondence that Sir John Vane came to hold Professor Goodford in high esteem, both as a scientist and pharmacologist, and also as a person. The bulk of the correspondence in this file dates from 1982 - 1985, and concerns Professor Goodford's search for a new post after leaving Wellcome in 1982, an activity which was hampered by an economic recession.
The file includes correspondence on the following matters: Professor Goodford's posts at Wellcome and the University of Oxford, in the Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics, Department of Zoology, 1982 - 1983; and Professor Goodford's applications for posts at the University of Western Australia, CSIRO (Melbourne, Australia) and the University of Edinburgh, 1984. The file also contains two brief letters, written in October 2000, in which Professor Goodford reflects on the work he undertook alongside Sir John Vane, and his achievements in general.
