Description'Another letter from the same Mr Henry Powell to his father concerning a horrid darknesse and extraordinary raine'

'Mine last yeare, advised of the unknowne Earthquakes which afflicted most of thesse parts, in some to the destroying of whole towns; Viz, June 1st in Agra, the Kings sesat, at 3 in the afternoone such a darknesse posses't the country, that none could see his fdellow in the streets, nor his hand though never so ner his eyes, which continued half and houre, and then dissolved in raine. It has pleased God to send this year such raines and overflowings of the Rivers, tht in many places whole towns with cattells and men have beene carryed away to the destruction of many thousands. About the latter end of August there was such a storme about Pattava, that it rowled, as it were, tht great sicy in heapes, destroyed many people, and continued 3 days anbd nights, in which wee hgave lost a sltpeter boate of valew, and the Dutch another also; both ours and the Dutch houses in all those pasrts awre blowne downe; wee expect the same, it being usual with us, about the middle of October yeaerely, but such inundatins and stormes were nevere before heard of. '
