Distinguished for his knowledge of palaeontology and his researches on fossil fishes. Discovered and described for the first time complete specimens of the Devonian fish, 'Pteraspis' , and discussed their bearing on the classification and interpretation of the Ostracoderms (Phil. Trans., 1953). Identified and described the remains of fishes from the Eocene of England and of Nigeria, in a publication of the British Museum (1931) and in 'Bulletins of the Nigerian Gelological Survey ' (1926, 1934), and determined their geological as well as their zoological relations. Also author of other papers on fossil fishes of philosophical importance. |
