Citation | Smith, Wilson (Sheffield). M.D., Dipl.Bact. (Manchester). Professor of BActeriology in the University of Sheffield. Was one of the discoverers of the influenza virus, and has done much of the pioneer experimental work in laboratory animals on this subject. A good deal of this work was joint work, but Wilson Smith deserves a full share of the credit accruing from these investigations. He has also added notably to our knowledge regarding other viruses, such as vaccinia and herpes viruses, and studied the action of bile salts on several of these agents. He has further done valuable work with anti-pneumococcal sera which assists in their assay and standardisation. A list of twenty-eight original papers is appended. |
